How do the video conferences work?

The infosessions and workshops of BeSt digital 2021 are video conferences. No registration or software installation is required to participate. The video conference can easily be opened in a browser or mobile in an app. To call up the meeting room on the laptop or PC, the recommended browser is Google Chrome. In any case, a standard web browser should be used. To call up the meeting room via smartphone or tablet, the Android Jitsi Meet app or the iOS Jitsi Meet app can be downloaded.

The meeting tools are similar to services like Skype, Zoom and Co. At the bottom of the video conference window there are, among others, the following functions:

Open and close text chat: During the video conference, text messages can be exchanged using the speech bubble icon on the far left.

Share screen: With this function you can share your own screen, an application window or a Chrome tab with the other conference guests. Another click on this symbol ends the sharing.

Articulate request to speak: The hand symbol corresponds to “raising your hand” in school to let the other people in the room know that you want to say something.

Microphone on / off: The microphone is switched on or off with the microphone symbol. When the microphone is switched off, the symbol is crossed out. Additional microphone settings can be made with the small hook.

Hang up: The video conference is ended by clicking on the red phone symbol. The hanging up is documented with a short message for everyone.

Camera on / off: The webcam is switched on or off with the camera symbol. When the camera is switched off, the symbol is crossed out. Further camera settings can be made with the small hook.
